From 1999 through 2017, Steven H. Lipstein served as president and CEO of BJC HealthCare, a multihospital, multibillion-dollar, comprehensive health care delivery organization serving greater St. Louis and southern Illinois.
Spanning four decades, Lipstein's education and professional career have taken him from Emory University to Duke University for college and graduate school, respectively; to Massachusetts General Hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and the University of Chicago Hospitals; and then to BJC HealthCare.
Lipstein serves on the board of directors of Ameren Corporation, a public utility company, and on the Health Services Committee of the University of California Board of Regents. He is also a former chair of the board of directors of the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank.
Among his honors, Lipstein was named St. Louis Citizen of the Year in 2013, elected for membership to the National Academy of Medicine in 2014, received a distinguished service award from the Association of American Medical Colleges in 2015, and received the Gail L. Warden Leadership Excellence Award from the National Center for Healthcare Leadership in 2017.
